If you go to disc manager, is there a partition on the drive?

What if you format it there?

yip there is a partition, it also says healthy but i cannot access the usb, when i format it in disk management is fails

edit: the file system is left blank but when i check its properties it says RAW

Delete the partition, remove the drive from the pc, put it back in, follow the wizard that comes up's prompts

If fails during format, could mean flash drive has gone to heaven.

Quick format the flash drive then download a trial program called "Recover My Files" or another called "Recuva" then run them on the flash drive to recover anything you might have lost - Saved a friend of mine's life recovering a matric biology project on his flash drive.

cant format at all, i dont want to save my files, i want to save the flash

Three possibilities using gparted to format/repartition the flash drive:
1. find someone with a linux pc and run gparted from it, on the flash drive.
2. download gparted.iso, create a CD from it, boot from the CD and run gparted on the flash drive.
3. get an Ubuntu live DVD, boot from it and run gparted from Ubuntu live on the flash drive.

Sounds like a lot easier option is to pop out and buy a new one. Not that expensive, really.

Yip, you're booting off the CD and running in a linux environment.

i dont know what you mean by it running in a linux environment. anyway will download the app now and do this using xp (i dont have linux)

edit: i downloaded it (1.3mb) it was in rar format so i extracted it and get a whole lota files and folders. what now?

The iso is a mini Linux distro. Restart your pc with the iso burned to cd (and in your cdrom tray). Then go to the gparted program, select the flash drive from the dropdown and delete partition, create new and format it. Then reboot into Windows again.

so do i have to download the mini linux separately? i dont see it in the extracted folder. can you perhaps post a link to where i cold get the exact things i need?

froot has given you the info. You don't have to know anything about Linux, you end up in a windowed OS with gparted as pretty much the only usable app.

You should have downloaded an iso file, not a rar file:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/gparted/files/gparted-live-stable/
(Click on the latest version, then the .iso file)
