I want to take the digital sound from my HP microserver (music, movies on XBMC) to take straight into my amplifier to convert. The amplifier has no HDMI - so wondering if you get a converter?

My amp doesn't have HDMI in though

So the HDMI will go direct to TV ; while the coax will go straight to amplifier

Nevermind...

Can you not run HDMI to your TV then co-ax out to the amplifier, I think that's possible on my TV.

Believe it or not - my TV doesn't have coax/optical ... else that was exactly what I would have done

My TV and amp is connected in this way. The sound is out of sync, so much so that I only use my amp to listen to music.

What outputs does your TV have? I find it more convenient to use the TV output rather than the individual components outputs... no need to split HDMI and saves on messy cables.

Only analogue outputs - but I prefer to go full digital now as I've started a lossles FLAC colletion and my hi-fi is quite decent

The USB Asus Xonar U3 has optical (S/PDIF) output, as well as analog 3.5mm headphone/speaker output - both of which share the same port.

I'd *prefer* coaxial if possible ... but that does seem pretty cool.

I'll check out more of it

Thanks
