Android 4.x allows all sorts of usb devices to be connected to the phone. Now if the the phone charges through it's usb port... how do you connect a usb device and charge at the same time? :-/

Want to use my gamepad (just have to still find the right microusb-to-usb adapter/cable) on my phone but the way games drain the battery it won't be that long before i have to plug it out again and plug the charger in.

Micro USB to USB + Male to Male USB cable + Powered USB Hub might work/

Dude... I've blown too many electronics in the past. And will the phone actually see the gamepad as a gamepad and charge at the same time? Will the power flow in the wrong direction and fry something or will nothing happen at all?

OK heard from a friend, apparently u just need a proper self powered usb hub. Charges the phone and everything. Guess I underestimated Android. And my paranoia got the better of me.

A powered USB hub won't work. Nothing to do with Android, that's just how USB works. The power doesn't go to the host device (which would be the phone), only the "down" ports.

It would probably make your battery charge last longer though, since it doesn't need to power any external devices. I've used one to run a mouse, keyboard and flash drive, but in a Galaxy SIII, the screen drains so much battery anyways, I didn't really see a difference.

Except he's actually done it a few times already he says. Depends on the particular phone or hub mayby?

Might be a particular hub, although I've never seen one like that. You'd need to get the same one if you wanted to try something like that.

Would I be wrong in saying you'd probably not want to connect more than one device to the hub? Possibility of overloading it and damaging the phone?

That's actually one thing i wanted to make certain of. If you only connect one thing to the phone via a hub you are already connecting the phone to two devices at the same time, one is just by extension.

Yes, you are wrong. I've connected 3 devices via a powered hub to my GSIII with no problems. It just doesn't charge, but the keyboard, mouse and flash drive all worked fine.
