Hello chaps :)

I purchased a MS wireless keyboard & mouse last month and after attending to a fresh install and installation of drivers/software for this ****en thing I get that annoying intermittent message 'usb device not recognised'. I attend to a format and re-install and still nothing, also tried the power off and inf. deletion as sourced by google and nada. I now humbly submit myself to your expert opinion/help.

The only option not attempted is the cmos reset.

Thank you in advance.

Ty hashbrown99, yep took out the flippen cmos battery and the message still appears. I feel like putting my fists through the ****en screen. I just give up :(

I would throw the !@#$ external HDD off a cliff if there was one nearby. All my other USB devices work but not this one. Going to waste a day later this week re-installing XP and Windows 7. What gets me is that the thing worked fine for a week but now refuses

Ok, all's well again after a format and re-installation of Vista 64 bit :). The usb device that Win 7 couldn't recognise was actually my Dlink ethernet card. Vista also dloaded drivers for the mobo chipset, etc, etc. So I think I'll stay with Vista for a while, Win 7 freaked me out for the last couple of days.

Disabled one of my USB controllers - had to try them all - and miraculously the drive is visible again.
Format and re-install didn't work

Hey hash, ja that flippen message appeared in Vista. I reverted to Win 7 this weekend and same thing. I read in win 7 forums that 64bit had some issues and the guy installed 32 bit and all was fine. I'm gonna attempt that now and will advise later again. I also read in that forum that someone had luck with copying inf folder to a New folder in windows and getting windows to look in that folder and all was sorted (really how odd). Anyways I'll post should I have any luck in 32bit.

Been there done that. I know how you feel

I had issues with 64-bit and 32-bit. Eventually stuck with 32-bit as more of my admittedly ancient hardware works with it and upgrading isn't an option right now
