USB Hub Not Working

I have a D-Link 7 port, powered USB hub.
Often equipment that I plug into the hub is not detected by by PC (Windows 7 Professional). But if I plug the equipment into a USB port on my laptop, the euipment is detected!

Is this a common problem with hubs / Windows 7?

Any recommendations?

They're not Win 7 compatible
