I currently connect to the internet with a usb modem, and print to a wireless printer via a wireless router, but I can't connect to the internet if i have connected to the wireless net work even if the usb modem is connected and shows the internet is active.

how can I prioritise the networks? eg. only the printing tasks goes trough the wireless network and the internet task via the usb modem?

gigaset se551 wlan/dsl cable router
mtn usb modem
lexmark pro700 printer

if you guys can help me with the set up that would enable me to connect to the internet and allow me to print ant the same time

thx

from what i gathered its a default routing problem? any information how too change the default routing on windows 7?

My guess is that your printer is on a different subnet than your PC's LAN IP address, which would result in your PC trying to access the printer via the 3G connection.
In this case I can give you a command to add a persistent route (one that will be kept even if you restart your Windows) to your wireless router's subnet to force that traffic to go through your wireless connection instead.

Could you perhaps run the following 2 commands in Command Prompt (while you're connected to both the wireless router & USB modem):
Code:
route print -4
ipconfig
and then copy and paste the results here?

On the Wireless connection, set a static ip and subnet mask.. Leave the Default Gateway & Preferred DNS blank..

Leave the other connection as is..

..

If you need instructions on how to do the above, let me know...

Sounds to me like your default gateways are conflicting when connecting to the wireless network and to the USB stick.

Check this by doing a "route print" on your box when you notice that you can't connect to the internet. I'll bet that the default gateway is pointing to your ADSL router, rather than your USB 3G interface.

One approach is just to hard code the IP address for your wireless interface (rather than using DHCP), so that your wireless router does not update the default gateway at all.

Unfortunately, I know nothing about Windows 7, so am not in a position to advise further.
