I received a K4505 USB Stick with my 2+2 contract and it's horrible - windows 7 conflicts, constant disconnects, etc. I'll try upgrade the firmware to see if that helps but if it doesn't, could someone please recommend a device that's proven to be stable? I don't care much for speed - as long as it does 3G. And if there's one that doesn't need its own software to run and can use native windows dial-up networking stuff that would be a huge bonus. Thanks y'all..

Makes me wonder why I saw a billboard stating vodacom will swap out dead modems. Mine is crappy too! It drops after 5 minutes or so, while my 3565 stays on for 5 or 6 days ... I usually reboot then: but that's a Windows feature;-)

have you read this http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...ezing-disconnecting-and-other-stories-of-pain

I've also got an Huawei E1820 and mine is perfect

I also heard that the K4505 has many fault as proven by the link to thread in previous post.
Go to Vodacom and ask for exchange. Preferably not any of the modems that start with K4....
Don't like any of them.
If they don't want to, buy a Internet Starter Pack.
It will cost you R399 and and you will get a K3765 modem and a sim with 100mb of data per month for 12 months.
Do what you want with the sim but the modem is great.
Had it for 8 month and not one problem. The longest I stayed connected was 4 days and no problem.
Link to Internet Starter Pack deal:

I know the add says you get a K3570 modem but the K3570 has been discontinued and it should be a K3765 unless they have old stock.
The new ones are all K3765 modems.
You can see how modem by looking through the packaging and it should look like this

Uninstall the drivers and device software as well as disable autorun
then download and install this

@Rockhound . I also got the Vodacom internet starter pack and got the K3770 modem with mine .That was about 3 weeks ago . I also dont have any trouble with mine at all

One modem is made by Huawei and the other by another company. They use similar product numbers, which causes confusion.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

Are there any modems that are just plug and play with Windows 7? That or lightweight drivers.
