is it possible to share files inside a usb hard drive, by sharing the files and accessing them through my ubuntu laptop connected to my network. like a program of some sort.

any help would be appreciated.

In Ubuntu, you must mount the drive, then it will become visible as a drive on the laptop

Are you able to see the Ubuntu partition in Windows networking?

ok, so i want to be able to access the drive from my mac and windows machines on my network through my ubuntu laptop (also on my network)

ok so i have downloaded it how do i configure it to let me share the usb hard drive.

Code:
sudo apt-get install samba

Once installed, right click on the files/folders/drive you want to share and configure you sharing.

Make sure you have the samba server installed.
Create a samba user/password
Share the /media directory on your notebook

With samba, I found it works best if the server machine has a fixed IP address (set up your router to do this for you).
