USB on HDTVs

I was considering the hisense 50" smart uhd at Makro - still might get it, though not sure if I want uhd or standard fhd - the uhd was strange, either way, cost was indeed a fraction of most brands, except sinotec, same price.

There are now also HiSense shops, one opened a while back close to my home.

I'd be a bit wary of Sinotech, reason being my boss bought a 50" from Makro and has returned it twice.
He also took the Hisense now.

I just don't want to help my dad buy a TV (he has had his current one probably going on 20 years). He just doesn't buy stuff like this at all. He asked me to help him buy a good one. Don't want him to tell me after 2 years, see you made me buy k@k :D

But I think that what you said with it playing everything is probably a safe bet. If the TV goes in 2 odd years I'll just replace it for him. Playing media will be a big thing for him. He actually comes to my house every time he watched everything on the HDD. At least he's moving with the times. The Laptop is a pain for him as he says he can't want it nicely and sitting on the couch. He wants to view it on TV. Just with everything being available online I can't be arsed with a Blu-ray player tbh.

That was part of my reasoning as well.

With the price you pay for it, it is totally do-able every couple of years, if needs must.
But my first one was on three years, maybe a bit more, before the lightning episode.

Obviously do your homework and shop around, but I would definitely consider them.

Nope... use an USB extension cable. :p

Can you give me the address for this HiSense shop in Centurion?

Go branded, especially because there's not much in it at the entry level of the market. You can easily Google for info on a branded set and you'll find plenty of info, threads, settings, etc. from owners.

Try that for a cheapie, you'll come short.

There's a reason they're cheaper. Don't be snoep unless you don't have a choice.

Strange I have the same one (older 40") no problems apart from the odd voice to pic mismatch which I solve by just stopping and resuming the movie.

Lucky you! :)
It seems to be only MP4 videos that's affected.

Right,

Bought a HiSense HD ready LED 32"
Comes with a 3 years standard Warranty and 1 year extra if you register on their website. Plugged my HDD into it and it's failing to support some audio files and some video files. I'll have to double check which is which now so I can start downloading content for my dad. Will update which works and which don't. Pretty happy as it was only R 2800. Not bad, and it fits perfectly in the cabinet :)

Thanks guys.

Pretty decent for that price.

Audio: Does not play AC3
Video: What doesn't make sense it it didn't play one .avi (Xvid) file, but the other's it played. (might just have been a glitch will have to double check when I go there again)

You would have been better off with a Samsung 32" HDR LED-LCD, often floating at the R2,999 mark. Branded sets tend to have better playback compatibility.

Nonetheless, I'm sure your old man will enjoy it.

He's ecstatic. He had a 52cm some old Panasonic :D
Definitely a massive upgrade.
