This is a TOFFIE deluxe and i need some ideas :)

Customer with a usb problem:

He bought a 4gb axiz usb flash drive from local retailer. 1st time he goes to work and copies fotos + documents to work with them at home.

Problem - windows gives the usb init sound , and drive letter e: is opened with all the choices of what you would like to do: - so he selects explore.

If he clicks on ANY document or if any thumbnail is processed for thumb display - explorer locks for a few seconds and the USB stick is disconnected.

If you right click on ANY file - the file size is 0 and soon afterwards the USB stick "ejects/redetects" ....

The 4gb stick works 100% on his work pc - but not at all on his home pc.

He has got a 2gb stick - since monday after this happened - exact same result with his 2gb stick.

NOW: - he also has got a 256mb usb1 stick - which works 100% ...

I've tested my 50-in-1 card reader usb with a 4gb camera flash card on his pc - works 100% on his pc.

The only thing i can think of is that his psu ( 5volt ) is damaged ...usb needs 100mA to start and 500mA to run.

Also to make the situation more interesting - he has got a VIA pci usb 4 port card in....the 4gb and 2gb flash drives behaves exactly the same as in the rear and front ports of the mainboard usb.

So i dunno..

Going to take a 400watt psu tonight and maybe a xp-lite that can boot from cd just to test if its psu and or o/s.

pc is a 2.6ghz (533fsb 478) on a gigabyte mobo - have tested for spyware and virus - clean.

2cents?

dlink 4 port usb hub did the trick - more specific - the external power.

now this tickles me - because i also replaced the 400watt psu....<--- that in itself didn't help 1 bit.

so his 4gb axiz usb vs my 2gb kingston .....my kingston doesn't have ANY issues with/without external power/hubs..works every place.

his 4gb axiz + 2gb axiz needs external stable power?

smaller usb sticks work 100% in his pc...

i just DON'T GET IT :P

You guys don't perhaps have a power supply for a D-Link DUB-H4 USB Hub? :D

Xp Pro-Sp2 NTFS , usb stick(s) have been formatted for FAT/FAT32

tested both = both fail.

i'll contact axiz next week - but the point is that these sticks work 100% in other pcs - its just this pc that decided to become iffy.

2gb kingston and 32gb corsair works 100% - but not his 2gb and 4gb axiz sticks.

have done a full format on those sticks on other computers - no issues.
