So I am able to see my FAT32 USB Stick in Linux. And I am also able to view it in Vista SP! if I start with it plugged in. But if I plug it in after Vista has started, I get an error message.

There is no autorun.inf file as far as i can make out.

I get a USB Device not recognized error

That's a common Windows Vista bug that is resolved with an update or a tweak to the registry. It does get resolved if you use automatic updates.
