Hi there guys

I am having a little problem here.

one of my clients just called me and he has a usb to rs-232 device(serial) and in windows 7 it will only let him choose from com port 20 upwards and dont understand why, do any of you guys have a solution I have tried googling it with no response and he needs to use a lower com port as the software he is using only allows up to com 4.

If you could please assist it would be great as this is confusing. he has checked under device manager when you try assinging the com port number but have had no luck what so ever.

There is software available that will directly map one COM port to another that will solve your problem.

Check out "Virtual Serial Port" or "Free serial port monitor". Also make very sure the common grounds are connected, I've had USB<->RS232 converters where the ground loop was broken.
