Hi, I'm looking for a USB to USB networking cable, that I can use to connect two Window's PC's together and create a small LAN, similar to two PC's being connected directly together via Ethernet.
This is not for a permanent setup, more for a plug and play setup that will only be used for a few days. So it would be great if it can easily be setup.
It must be USB2 and/or USB3 compatible.

Does anybody know where I can find such a thing?

this is a terrible idea. just use a cross over network cable. and configure your ip addresses suitably.

Why not just use your router? If you do have a router.

no it is not impossible and no, you do not need ethernet over usb adapters. you can setup serial connections between pc's usb ports the same way you used to set upt connections between computers using serial or parallel ports.

Also you technically don't even need a cross over cable anymore. Tried it on my laptop to another with a normal straight through and it worked.

sorry, it seems with usb it is slightly more complex than the days of serial ports. you need a USB bridge cable. doubt you will find one new as it is never done any more. at budza, google laplink for a blast from the past

No, it's not a terrible idea. This is not for business, it's just for me ;)
The Ethernet port(s) are already being used for something else.
A router, or anything else powered by an AC plug is not optional.

It would be great if it could work at maximum USB speeds.

Only on modern network cards that support it.

At what speed?
