USB wifi dongle antenna?

Hi!

I have fibre at home. 10Mbps.The standard issue mikrotik router is downstairs and is working fine.
Have my Telkom Lit box working beautifully for years.
Downstairs, where the router is, our phones, on the mbb speed test get around 9.7Mbps. Upstairs, they get around 8-9.
I have a laptop that gets around 7-8 upstairs.

Wife got a Mecer Guru Pro laptop/notebook thing which works great for her needs, but unlike our other devices, this little machine only manages around 6 downstairs and between 0,4-1,5Mbps upstairs . Which is a bloody nightmare trying to stream Netflix etc in bed.

Sooo, without breaking the bank with big expensive router devices, will one of those little cheap usb wifi aerials that plug into the laptop and are usually in a black or white "L" shape work to bring the speed up? Will it make a notable difference?

Which Mikrotik device is downstairs? What standards does it support? 5Ghz? 2.4Ghz?

Sorry I didn't reply. I missed your reply. See my response to @Rickster. His suggestion of a device worked. To answer your question I have the hAp AC Lite. Is has both 2.4 and 5Ghz output. The offending laptop only able to do 2.4.
Now with the dongle purchased can choose which to use on the laptop. It's slightly annoying to have to plug a wireless addition onto a wireless device to make it work properly wirelessly. But at least the problem is solved.

Install WiFi Analyzer (open-source) - Apps on Google Play on your phone and find the best wifi channel then set accordingly.

In an emergency, you can try to use your phone if your phone picks up better wifi. Just tether it via USB.

I did that with an old laptop which appeared to have a faulty wifi card.
