I use an external usb3 drive for backups.

El cheapo USB3 card.

Those definitely don't look like USB2 speeds. Despite none of my motherboard, mouse, UPS, monitor, keyboard or office chair having USB3 headers on them. I think the cat might. Could that be doing it?

Stay the fck away from AgeStar stuff.
I've had 2 of their Usb3 7 port hubs now. Both useless. Don't work as advertised at all.

The pci card will work don't worry! Not sure what house is on about.

A bit off topic but any idea why the new Gen 8 HP Microservers still have a USB2.0 internal port?

I bought a USB 3 card a while ago, and a nice hub, and some external usb 3 drives. It was an absolute bitch finding the USB card, and took ages before I found one. I also splashed out on a really nice hub. It worked well at first, but then something happened, and I'm not sure why I have complete memory loss of how it happened, but some parts broke off the card. The transformer for my hub also popped a while later. I'm now sitting with a hub with a lot of ports, which can't be powered, shoved into a usb 2 port, and my lovely 6TB of external drives slow as ****. And I still see sparks when plugging in usb things.

FML.

Probably a decision by the same genius that decided they should cost 5 times as much now.
