I plugged my iPad 2 into my USB to charge and was surprised it gave me an Internal Storage folder - which f I went in, I could see my photos.

However I couldn't put more in the directory as it seems to be read only.

Is there anyway of doing it at all? On my work PC without iTunes

No. That is why I use an iPad, have a R60 8GiG flash drive and let the other people use R8000 flash drives called Android tablets.

My 16GB iPad is already full of books. iCloud storage is also full. I wish the darn thing supported attaching USB storage to it.

My Gen 1 iPad was also 16gigs and at that time it was still usable but as time went on and apps got bigger and bigger, I told myself I'd never buy and device (phone or tablet) that was less than 32gigs.

I have a 64gb Ipad and that ain't big enough. Ironically I was researching Wifi Drives as an external storage source for my ipad.... however, I shall wait till the 128gb comes out and I am one of those few souls that actually wants an ipad with a larger screen 13' ...

I think if you could built an ipad/tablet the size of a table top, you could find an incredible amount of uses for it...

but then again, what do I know...

Thanks - will check out goodreader.

It's bizarre you can do it one way (I can copy my pictures from the iPad using USB) only

It's all got to do with security. if you were allowed to copy to the device, Apple wouldn't have anyway of making sure the files are secure ect. I personally prefer this.
