Use Purchased Apps for Ipad2 on MacBook Pro?

Just bought my first Mac Book pro. and I have some Apps, eg. Keynote, Pages that I have purchased for Ipad2 but can not see that i can use them on my MBP. Do I have to purchase these Apps again for the MBP?

Yes - unfortunately apps aren't cross platform compatible.

1 if you download Xcode you'll find an iOS emulator in there. But you'd have to be quite techie to make the iWorks apps run in there and, meaning no disrespect, if you were at that level, you wouln't need to ask. Even then, an app built for a touchscreen is never going to feel right with a mouse or trackpad.

2 get a dropbox account and sign up at otixo, then save all your your Pages docs in dropbox as .doc or .rtf. On the mac ypu can do some basic editing in Textedit, though you'll lose much of the fancy formatting. Then you can re-import the files into Pages. To do the same thing with Numbers and Keynote, you'll have to use one of the Openoffice variants, like Libreoffice or Neooffice. A ridiculously complicated workaround, but it's what we were all doing until Apple got its iCloud act together last month.

3 bite the bullet and buy the apps. They are quite cheap compared to the cost of a MBP, and they really are worth it.

Compared to the iOS versions they also offer a whole lot more functionality.

Thanks, I am challenged technology wise! I have bitten the bullet and purchased all the ones i need for the MBP.
One thing that surprised me was the speed of the download for Keynote!!!
