Hi all and thank you for your help.

TP-Link TD-W8980 N600

Wifi comes from NEPIC router.

I have setup my router as a range extender for a router at my office. We don't use DSL anymore and only Wifi which made the router obsolete. But, I needed to extra range and read on the net that I can use it as a range extender,
This is what I have done: (my PC wired to router)
1. Change LAN IP address to same range as host router. Reboot router
2. Enabled WDS under Wireless 2.4GHz | Basic Settings.
3. Scanned and logged into Wifi network and typed in the password for the network.
4. Reboot Router
5. Have internet on wired PC.
6. Successfully logged in via Wifi from my iPhone 6 and have internet.
7. After about 30 minutes iPhone does not have internet even though it is still connected to the Wifi network.
8, I deleted the connection and logged in again. Now there is only the turning circle next to the connection ID. When I tap on the i, it shows 169.254.254.198 as IP-address and not my network IP.
9. This happens with all devices.
9. I still have perfect internet on my wired PC.
10. I disabled DHCP Server and rebooted,
11. Still no success on Wifi connections,

I will really appreciate it if someone can help me with better/correct settings. What I don't understand is that I had Wifi internet on mobile devices for about 30 minutes and then nothing even though it shows a connection.

Please advise.

It will work perfectly as a range extender.
1. Use a CAT5 cable between the two routers, LAN port to LAN port. You can assign static IPs to these (outside of the DHCP scope)
2. Undo step 2 -- don't use WDS
3. Setup both 2.4 & 5GHz with the same SSIDs as the "host" router, just space out the channels
4. Enable DHCP relay
5. Set it up for "wireless router mode"
6. Enjoy!

Thank you so very much for your reply.

I eventually for it to work but will definitely do the cable route later. I need to jump from one building to another.

Thank you very much for your time in helping me out. :)

Hi again.
I want to try out your suggestion. Will it be possible to have the the TP-Link to "accept" data with cable and also to send; meaning, can I plugin the incoming to Lan/Wan port as incoming and also my PC in another port as outgoing to supply internet to my PC? (I hope you understand what I mean.)

Thank you so long.

Yes if you bridge with the cable you can still use the LAN ports on the TP-Link to distribute internet to connected devices. Put the wireless to access point mode when bridging with a cable.

Keep in mind that if you put the cable into the WAN port on the TP-Link that network sharing between devices connected to the two different routers won't be possible by default so i would suggest you use one of the LAN ports instead.
Some devices allow you to disable the WAN port and even assign it as a 5th LAN port.
