Use VodaCom modem to acess Cell C data bundles

Is it possible to use Cell C data bundle wit a Vodacom modem under contract

If you have a Cellc SIM card (obviously) and the modem is not network-locked (which they should not be), then YES.
You would have to install some other generic 'dashboard' software (e.g. MobilePartner or MaxisBroadband) to get things running for CellC.

If your question relates to making use of CellC's new high-speed HSPA network, the answer is: you could only use the 'Vodacom' modem if it supports 900 MHz UMTS (check CellC website for compatible modems); using normal (slow) EDGE on CellC the 'Vodacom' modem should work fine otherwise.

Just one other proviso that it took me ages to discover: if you are going to use the modem to access your Cell C data when it is actually piggybacking in your area from a Vodacom tower (meaning in effect everyone who does not have a Cell C tower in their vicinity), you will most likely need to 'force' the modem down to GPRS/EDGE speed; if not it will show failure and will not connect because Vodacom apparently does not allow 3G 'roaming'. Your modem 'thinks' it can connect at the actual maximum speed it detects from the tower, but this only applies to Vodacom data from that tower, not Cell C's, so your modem in effect jams up.

The generic Cell C software has disabled the mode-forcing option for some weird reason, but a re-enabled version produced by forum member Tun@ can be found elsewhere through this site. The easiest option is indeed MDMA, which includes the ability to force the preferred mode. You will also need to force the mode back again if you use the modem for a dedicated Cell C tower, and so on.

So what you are saying is that if I use this "mdma" I can make use of the Cell C promotion in areas where there are no official coverage provided that there is Vodacom coverage?

I am not sure about this but I would imagine that the coverage map of CellC takes the roaming capability on the Vodacom network into account i.e. it does not only show the coverage provided by CellC's own towers but this is just a guess

Yes, vodacom roaming is shown on the map - I live in remote KZN - when using Cell C, we roam on Vodacom here, and the cell C map is marked pink coverage (GPRS) there isnt a cell c tower within 50kms of here.

I can absolutely confirm that using the Cell C package for getting data from a piggybacked Voda tower works long-term too. I bought the Cell C package purely because it was exceptionally cheap and I can live with EDGE -- and I've used up my entire first month's 2GB from my local 'roaming' Vodacom tower, no problem.
