Used Radeon GPU prices crashing?

It looks like used Radeon GPU prices are crashing on Ebay at the moment. There are tons of R9 290x cards for just over $300! It appears as if a lot of coin miners are dumping their rigs and the 2nd hand market is feeling it! I have seen a few guys on Carbonite dumping mining rigs lately as well. If supply and demand is anything to do buy there will be a lot of used Radeon cards going around for cheap soon.

Hmmm, will keep an eye on this. I need a raplacement for my GTX570 and I have been eying the 280X for a while now. Well, since they were released but I could never get stock.

I wonder how badly the prices will drop here in SA?

/goes to carbonite

If it arrives dead then yes, if it arrives alive (lol), then breaks a month later you're screwed.

Normally when its arrives alive they are ok. But that is risk we all take with second hand stuff

Prices of 2nd-hand GPUs in RSA are crashing as well. Go check on Carbonite. People stopped mining (it's not feasible anymore) and now the market is flooded with all the GPUs.

When you buy a Gigabyte or MSI card(or any brand for that matter), doesn't it come with a manufacturer's warranty? I know that if you buy one in SA and it breaks, you take it to Gigabyte or MSI's distributors(no proof of payment necessary) and they either fix or replace it if it happens within the warranty period of 2-3 years.. Wouldn't this apply to international goods as well?

I think certain countries have different policies on warranties, and they can probably track which batch of GPU's went to which country, etc. so it might be good to check with them beforehand

Actually, if it doesn't arrive you're covered.
If it arrives faulty, you're covered less the amount it's going to cost you to ship it back (tracked) to the seller.

Don't tell the guys on carbonite. They are perfectly happy to sell you a card that once costed R3500 for about R4000.

Can anyone confirm this on the Gigabyte cards? Who can you take it to?

How are you going to prove the 2-3 year part without proof of purchase though?

Its not been feasible for a while. I'm guessing the Willy report is the reason for hardware prices crashing.

ok I am a benevolent god ;P so I will help you guys out.

I bought 2 xfx 290x's for $340 each. Shipping was $80(insured, don't rely on ebay buyer protection I have had them randomly close cases on me and say there is nothing they can do to reopen it even if it is an ebay error) each, customs was R600 each

So around R4800 each, Shippied via usps priority it took 20 days to arrive. My cards are currently untested as my motherboard is on an rma so I will update once it is back but both cards look perfect.

xfx will honor the warranty, I have had it once that they paid shipping from SA to the US but don't count on it. IF you need to ship it back it till cost R800 each way if you are lucky but yeah it is worth it because they replace their cards with new ones.

DO NOT BUY FROM CANADA, shipping is $100 at least. IT takes longer too, the canada postal service is bankrupt so yeah...

You can get it for cheaper, I saw a guy list 5 290x's and the lowest one went for $201 and I am damn sad I did not bid on it. You will also see some listings where the seller ships internationally that ebay works out customs fees etc for you but they are rarer and go for more money. You will need to ask each seller politely if he will ship to south africa and what will it cost to ship via flat rate usps priority.

Other brands you will have to contact each brand to find out what they do in regards to warranty. Some are serial based but you need to live in the country of origin to rma and all that jazz.
