Hey guys,

Recently I heard about news servers and downloading locally at high speeds day and night. I thought I'd give it a try but I'm running into problems.

I downloaded GrabIt, created a new server with the Hostname news.mweb.co.za with a port of 119.
I tried to update the group to download the newslist and it says "Unable to connect to news.mweb.co.za:119 (Socket error#10060Connection times out)"

I also tried to download a nzb file from newshost.co.za and loaded it in, I get the same error. So far I havent been able to download anything.

I have an mweb 384k uncapped account.

If anyone could help I'd appreciate it

Thanks

The news server at Mweb is bad at the best of times. For decent news access its best to subscribe to one of the international news servers (easynews, astraweb, giganews etc)

Good speeds are not a given for a paid service, at this stage anyway. My DL spped on Supernews is pretty dismial atm, hope it improves though. That said, agreed on the MWEB news server, there is no free lunch as they say ;)

A watched pot never boils; with patience the MWEB news server can be used. I've only got a 512kb connection but I get what i want within a day or so (depending on the file size, of course. ) The best is having a reasonably fast line that can take advantage of those moments to max out when the connection "comes alive."
Did a 740MB download overnight. Busy now with a 1.4GB thread 132 days old using SABnzbd. How long does MWEB actually keep news postings on their servers?
