User blame IT, Microsoft for virus

The majority of users believe that the virus writers must take the ultimate responsibility for deliberately creating and unleashing this worm, which has wreaked havoc on poorly protected businesses.

Yes, and no. Many viruses are written because MS are slow to release patches, so by having a virus that exposes this, then MS are forced to act and get their code in order.

People should pick better passwords. That should at least slow the worm down.
And the worm has infected about 9m pc already worldwide!

Ya how do you roll out a security patch on like 500 pc's? and then some ppl lock their offices and switched off pc's

Sorry, I just find it so funny when people try to blame anything except Microsoft's shoddy operating system. I'm enjoying the view from the safety of my Kubuntu Linux computer. Who needs a virus checker?

Same way I know my car is safe from theft.
By a citroen... Who'd wanna steel that piece of junk anyways :D

As I mention once before, after getting the os and the patches/fixes/etc, what else do you do with linux ?

Well, if Linux takes over and becomes the dominant OS (as many Linux fanbois think), you will need an AV as well, because currently virus writes don't target Linux, but Windows.

Microsoft has more security holes and is slow to release patches for them. And Linux gets updated more regularly, making it more difficult to target.

so you reckon those pesky virus writers have never tried to target all the servers out there running linux?

Strange then, that my Ubuntu downloads kernel patches weekly...meaning there are lots of holes.

Silent Scripts that run at start-up.

if you on active directory yeah sure.... right now have 3 systems, winNT 2000 and 2003 servers and a mix between....
it's a royal mess.

The users are quick to blame IT when most of the time it's they that caused the problem themselves.
