Maybe people are actually starting to tire of Microsoft's eight-year-old Windows XP.

Not sure how they can say that considering that most PCs nowadays come with Vista - in fact only enterprise / business machines have XP downgrade options. A drop of 1.1% is probably in line with old PC attrition rate and new PC purchases (which ALL come with Vista unless you jump through loops to get XP).

Many machines are still sold with XP option.

IC, GAME, Chaos and Mania ONLY sell Vista (at least in their ads). Also, wasn't it only HP which got the extension to allow downgrades to XP?
