I have a Vodacom account with a Galaxy S7 but where I am right now the network sucks and I would like to know if I am violating my contract or device warranty if I pop in an MTN or CellC SIM for about a week while I am here and return to Vodacom later. Would they know? Can I penalised? Apologies in advance if this has been asked before.

You can definitely use another sim, no you won't be penalised as far as i know.

If something happens to the device with the other SIM in (and of course their systems do show this easily), you VC insurance will not cover it, if I understand how they work.

What you say about Vodacom insurance is correct. If anything happens to that device while another network sim is in it, it is not covered. And yes, they check this should you put a claim in. It is a rule that is enforced very strictly.

But, for all we know, he does not have Vodacom insurance.
