Using a dual-SIM iPhone with Rain Mobile is a great option

Apple’s new iPhones pack an array of upgrades and features – including dual-SIM support, which Rain Mobile is interested in supporting.

The iPhone dual-SIM functionality is not enabled in the typical manner, however – two physical SIM cards in one phone.

The Dual Sim phone is world wide...so long they start supporting Integrated (eSim) SIM.

That is literally what the article is about if you actually bothered to read it.

I'm very happy they are keen to support it as it means Apple Watch LTE becomes an option for SA too.

Vodacom already supports eSim, so Rain should already as well. But they aren't a carrier on the iPhone so getting certified might be hard.

Best bet is your primary provider for calls (MTN/Voda) is your eSim and RAIN is your data sim.
 
Are Vodacom and MTN just going to keel over and let us take our data spend to another network?

Vodacom or Vodafone?

Have heard nothing from Vodacom supporting it.

*** Could be confusing it with the Apple Watch problem of duplicating your primary sim onto the secondary SIM for use in Apple Watch and billing it as one and the same.

Best bet is your primary provider for calls (MTN/Voda) is your eSim and RAIN is your data sim.

Yeah that would be ideal for a phone but in the case of iPad & Apple Watch rain as primary on eSIM would be ideal.

For someone like me who hardly takes calls having my "number" on a secondary would also be just fine.

In the case of iPhone I don't think they would have any choice.

They have no firmware access and therefore would probably be completely unaware of the second sim and unable to do anything about it.

Watch or phone or toaster it doesn't matter. On a high level it's the same principle.
 
If you ask me.. the only providers who would want to support eSim tech is Telkom & CellC (MNOs) as they will drive up sales of their products that way.

For Vodacom in particular, the ability to use eSIM tech will mean data revenue drying up so i don't see them supporting it until one of the other players allow it and then it's just for saying they also innovative. MTN.. same as voda i guess.
 
Would love for Rain to introduce this, could finally get my Samsung watch to work interdependently of the phone.
 
SUCH OLD NEWS, using Huawei mate 10 pro with SIM1 mtn voice and sim2 cellc business voice and data

There is no esim device in SA as far as I am aware so nothing can use it. Pointless launching a useless service as Open Web already has the market cornered on that.

I just posted the MyBB link as it's the only thing that's already public.

There is no device because Vodacom and others blocked it due to their disinterest in making it happen.

We were getting the Apple Watch LTE and then suddenly we weren’t.

Activating the eSIM is reasonably simple enough, it’s the billing and and tracking of data when using it in a duplicate configuration as a secondary sim to the same voice and data plan where it gets complicated and it’s that part where they got stuck I believe and didn’t want to make the investment.

Now that there are more options in the market that watches and iPads hopefully they’ll make the effort.
