Using a VPN on uncapped to avoid shaping

Will the use of a half-decent VPN service (for about 5US$ per month) overcome the shaping on torrents, news etc?

Anyone got any experience or recommendations for a particular service?

Yes & No

Depends on where, and through who you connect.

Some sites yes, others are worse.

Will not help much as VPN traffic is probably also shaped.

Thanks, but I tried it this morning with a file from rapid share. Got this:
