Using a Wifi universal remote with DSTV Explora

Good day,

Has anyone used a Connex Connect Smart Tech Universal IR Remote (or any Smart Life or other wifi universal remote control) with a DSTV Explora 3A or a DSTV A7 remote?

The packaging for the universal remote says it supports DSTV and there are a number of DSTV and Multichoice remote profiles listed, but none of them seem to work.

For some of the profiles a light appears on the decoder when the button is pressed, but nothing happens.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for your reply.

This isn't to replace the DSTV remote, but rather to integrate the DSTV into the smart home - the Wifi Universal Remote allows you to control IR devices over the internet using an app or voice assistant.

Good luck.
The decoders will receive anything but only the right signal works. The other issues is most so called universal remotes only support one DSTV mode not all three. So you might have to spend plenty of effort trying to see which mode is supported .
An issue when you have more than one DStv decoder configured.

And as far as going the whole route of using an app?
Rather just use the DStv remote.

I ended up getting a Broadlink - Universal Remote RM4 mini, which had the remote settings in the community uploads. Works well with DSTV, Samsung TV and Blu-ray and GMC portable air-conditioner.

Hi pls were you able to automatically download channel lists? And pls what automations were you able to do with the universal remote
