Is it possible to use a wireless router as an access point only? I currently use Windows ICS on 1 PC at home to share my 3g connection. I have a wireless router available (SMC WBR14T-G) - can I use this as an access point on the network? Any thoughts on this?

Shouldnt be a problem, just turn off the DHCP server on the router and dont connect anything to the WAN port. All you will then be using is the LAN switch and wireless AP (which should be bridged together).

Thanks Roman4604 - it turned out to be quite simple.

Set the ICS PC to 192.168.0.1 static
Set router to 192.168.0.2 and also had to set gateway and DNS to point to 192.168.0.1
PCs connected to the wlan get their IPs from the router DHCP at 192.168.0.2 - all see this dhcp server before they get to the ICS dhcp server!

With the router DHCP off, if I didn't turn on the ICS computer then the rest of the network was IP-less

cheers
