A friend works for an office where they have a router with a 1Gb cap on it. She has a personal account with Telkom where she was given as login name and password. When the 1Gb from the office is used up, she opens her Nerwork connections and selects "Connect to" her own Telkom account. The properties of this connection say it is a WAN Miniport connection.

This stopped working about a month ago and we don't know how to get it going again. We tried at my house and her PC can see my router on the network, but dial up fails when trying to connect.

Any suggestions please?

Thanks - Chris

what router?

I have the DG834G and there are 2 ways to allow dialing direct from the PC:

Method 1: Go to the router web page select WAN setup under the Advanced section on the left hand panel. This should call up a series of check boxes. Select the enable PPPoE Relay check box to allow half-bridged mode. This mode allows you to set an ADSL password on the router while still allowing dial up connections from individual PCs.

Method 2: Go to http://<router_ip>/setup.cgi?next_file=mode.htm and set device mode to Modem only. This will set the router to bridge mode.

I have used both methods successfully on my router. Good luck.

Thanks very much, I'll give it a go. Always pays to speak to an expert.
