Nope.

DSTV do have a cheap R30 package though that does have all the SABC stuff and a few other channels.

Provided the DStv point in your flat runs to a appropriate UHF antenna pointed in the right direction, yes.

I can't explain why, but when I have my now unused DSTV decoder/dish connected and powered on, my normal TV reception improves dramatically.

I don't normally watch SABC, but I have connected this up for the World Cup and am getting pretty good reception. Without this it is crappy, not sure why this helps so much, maybe the DSTV decoder just has a really good signal amplifier built in, or the dish does act as an antenna ? (It is the 2P HD decoder).

Good enough that I don't miss DSTV.

It probably boosts the signal.

you can, just wear a tin foil hat to block some of the signals to your head

You need to remove the aerial cable from the decoder and connect it directly to your tv, then your picture will be clear all the time. Or you just activate EasyView for R200 a year.

If I do that then my signal is poor. I can't explain it, only that the decoder must have a good signal amplifier.

And I refuse to pay DSTV anything, they screwed me for many, many years, and I am not taking it any more.

Anyway, Netflix and Amazon Instant Video is just fine on Roku 3.

And my Amazon Fire TV should arrive any day now.

You obviously didn't know, that's why you asked.
Answer: No you can't. Since the dish does not pickup any UHF or VHF signals. As simple as that. Ignore the other snotty replies.

Ok cool ..so I have a dstv lnb point in my flat a dual view pvr.
I dont want to pay monthly for any subscriptions but want to be able
to get the sabc channels....in digital if possible what options do I have. Id prefer not to have to setup an aerial.
Also if I can get sum news channels and sport that would be cool.

You would have to put up an aerial to receive SABC channels.

Other options is DStv (monthly subs), OpenView HD (free) or StarSAT (monthly subs).

hmm, I just saw a pig fly by.

I have an old Top TV decoder, never been used, what can I do with that ?

A few options for you;

1. Throw it in the air and shoot it with a shotgun, ala clay pigeon.
2. Throw it in the bin
3. Throw it in the river (I don't condone polluting our rivers)
4. Throw it in the garden
5. sell it?

Hmm, I guess that it needs to be recycled.

I thought that it could maybe be used for one of the open services, like Open view.
