Hi there
I have the philips dvp5286k dvd player with USB 2.0. with flash drives it is ok, but im trying to play from my WD passport, the light on the HDD go on, but it says empty card on the player

should it maybe be converted to FAT32 ? if yes how do I go back from NTFS:rolleyes:

well, 2 things.

Yes, it has to be FAT32. Another thing, is it a 3.5 drive with it's own power supply? if it's a 2.5, it might not draw enough power from the usb socket to operate.

Bad news, you will have to format the drive to go from NTFS to FAT32, so you'll need to store the data somewhere else temporarily.

EDIT:

Just remembered, you do get some programs that can do it. Like Partition magic etc. But it's still not a good idea cause it can mess up the indexing and the partition table and you end up with half the files broken anyway. best to backup, format, and copy back.

Its a 2.5" drive,
not a problem to reformat, but I cant do it with windows alone.

Will try to get partition magic. thx.
There is place for a power supply, but it just need 5V DC, donno where to get that.

what do you mean you can't do it with windows alone? rightclick "my computer" and click manage.

And if you have one of those usb cables with with 2 usb connectors on the one end (often comes with the 2.5 external drive) then plug one into a laptop while the other is plugged into the philips.

aah, shows you how out of touch I am with non-ntfs (stone-age) technology. Anyway, you don't want to format your partition larger than the windows limited fat32 drive size, because then the philips again won't be able to read it anyway. So just make more than one partition. I's a drag, I know.

The phillips will read it with no problems. The 32gb size limit is not a fat32 limitation but a Windows one.
