Hi there
Don't know if this is a Win 7 related problem or HTC related.
Don't know if anyone has had this problem (or if anyone uses this phone as modem with a Win 7 PC), but I can't seem to get my HTC hero to work as modem with my Windows 7 laptop. It works perfectly with my home PC which runs on XP, just by installing HTC Sync, and setting the phone to "Network Sharing".
I think it might be a Windows 7 issue, because our office network also sometimes does not pick up internet when plugging in the network cable. It worked automatically on my previous Windows XP laptop. I googled the problem and found that in Windows 7 I need to physically type in the physical address of the modem/router by using ipconfig/all command in command prompt. This works perfectly. Bear in mind that I do not have to do this each and every time, but only when the laptop can't find the internet connection. Other times it finds it automatically without an adress.
Problem is, this same method does not work for my phone, because the physical adress of the HTC modem is coded differently (eg. 7A-5D-6f....... vs 75-20-48-36-00) and is too long to fit in the space where you put in the physical adress. I got it to work on random occasions, after trying a lot of things, but then the next time I try to use the HTC as modem on the Win 7 laptop, I can't get it to work no matter what. Any tips maybe???
