Using iBurst as backup for ADSL on two WRT54G routers

Hi all,

I hope that someone on the forum has managed to do this:

First my network layout:

|ADSL line|--|Mega105WR|--|WRT54GL|--* *--|WRT54GL|

Where |--| is an ethernet cable and |--* *--| is a wireless network using WDS.

Both the WRT54GL routers are running DD-WRT v24 RC3 and I am completly firmware agnostic and will try any firmware.

The default gateway points to the Mega105WR and under normal circumstances works perfectly. Recently Telkom decided to "load shed" our home telephone line which has resulted in intermittent access to the internet.

I would like to attach an iBurst modem to the second WRT54GL (I get better signal where the second WRT54GL router is placed but I could use either)

The iBurst modem should only become active when the ADSL is not available and disconnect again as soon as the ADSL returns.

My first instinct was to set up the ADSL as the default route and then add another route with a much higher metric to point to the second WRT54GL. When the ADSL link is available the traffic will use the lower metric but as soon as that path is no longer available the traffic will use iBurst.

Does anyone have any comments, advice, insults or rotten fruit to throw my way?

TIA
