Now this is just some idea or brainstrom call it what you like, but we are currently paying a rental fee for our ADSL lines and then have to get our own ISP or use Telkoms ISP.

So whats stopping us from getting a nice uncapped line from the UK for 35 Pounds, I mean you basically dailing diredtly to the ISP in UK via your line which your paying for and then from your ISP in UK can browse any site and download anything, the only downside I can see is that your local surfing would be a tad slower but for downloading files and even watching Youtube the speed would be basically the same.

So is there any laws preventing you from using an international ISP and is this infact possible.

But like I said just an idea but sure would be nice to be able to do this and would save you a heap of money each month.

Doesn't work. Sorry.
This is not possible via ADSL, but is possible via dial-up. At least it was. Years ago, pre-ADSL days. In an act of desperation I registered with some UK-based ISP that offered free internet access via dial-up. I was desperate to connect to a US server which required sub-400ms pings, and which was just not possible via dial-up locally. I can't remember the ISP, but I nearly fell off chair when I put in the international dialling code, dialled their pop, and made a successful connection. I was able to connect with pings in the low 300ms range, via dialup, to the UK, connecting to a server in the States. This was probably in about 2001/2 - and I remember making a post on one of our local gaming forums with detailed instructions about how to do it. People thought I was nuts! I only tried it on a few occasions - just for the experience - but it certainly worked. The technical infrastructure behind ADSL makes it impossible, but dialup certainly *should* still work, although there's not really much benefit to it (if any).

Just the bill alone would've been an experience on its own :p

But as you say, it should and will still work for Dialup cause if the way it works. You are just making a normal voice call to a pop. If that pop happens to be the local mweb pop or some other international pop does not matter. Our telephone system is connected to the international ones so all voice calls will work.

We do not have this 'interconnect' with ADSL. I don't know of any viable reason why this would ever be done as ADSL is like your Eskom power (In quite a few ways :p). You cannot go and pay ZimPowah Zim$297472903 this month and suspect them to provide you with service here. Both the power and ADSL services are location based/restricted services.

It is late, if this does not make sense, forgive me please :o
