I was at the Outdoor Warehouse this weekend and they're selling a really nifty Bosch electric screwdriver. A little palm sized one. So I'm thinking "Hey cool, I could use one of those on my pc." Only I heard that because of the magnetic tips the magnetic field will screw around with the electric components.

True or not?

that's not true...a+ course explains this in more detail, but, to summarise, the magnetic field may be strong close to the bit, but it drops off too quickly to do any harm.

anyway, a hard drive has two magents inside it already...think about it...

it's a myth that magnetic bits/screwdrivers etc shouldnt be used in pc's/

Nah, don't worry about it at all.
Electric screwdriver is the best thing since sliced cheese/bread/whatever other sliced thing you want.

well, i screw around (pun intended) with my hdd on a regular basis, with a magnetized screwdriver. it still seems fine. after about 3 years.

another cool thing is sliced polony! i hate slicing that stuff cause the one side is always thicker than the other side. ARG! so i buy presliced.

Well - I managed to bugger up my one hard drive by putting it on top of my sub, you coudln't even format it again, which I think is wierd.
But then again - it was lying on top of the sub for about 2 weeks.

You must buy one of dem awesome meat slicing machines - just remember, fingers are also just meat.

I bought one of dem huge chopping knives, then took me about 6 months of practice, but I can now chop like they do in the movies, quite easy once you get the technique sorted, but you do need that extra wide blade to save your fingers while u're learning.

Do a low level format from the inside the BIOS. It takes a couple of hours to run, but will be usable again.

2 late - threw the drive away about 5 months ago, after taking it apart and playing with the platters and stuff of course. It was only a 20GB drive anyway, but franks 4 the advice.

PCFormat

I read in one PCFormat (an article about data-recovery) that you need a frikking huge magnet to actually render the drive unusable... Looks like Stoke has a huge sub! :D

Anycase, I agree, magnetic screwdrivers should be fine!

You know what I'd like to see????

Pre-sliced Sweet and Tangy pickled cucumbers.

Talk about a thread hijack ;)

Anyway, when I was in the states, we got these pickles that are called hamburger stackers. These suckers are sliced pickles, the size of a frikkin' hamburger patty.

It's fun to walk into a store such as Safeways or King Soupers and browse their shelves. The varieties of product is mind boggling. To have one aisle devoted to pickles, or one to peanut butter or peanut butter chocolates again

well i can tell you ive put alot of pc's together with my magnet screw drivers and nothing ever happened

i think you need a rather large magnet to mess anything up
