I was just wondering, considering that I hop from office to office, and home, and so forth.

Would it be possible to Pay one subscription fee, but then connect with multiple modems from different places.

I mean, theoretically Sentech are only hiring out Bandwidth, and thus you should be limited to a certain bandwidth, depending on your subscription.

How you use that bandwidth, should be up to the individual!

Guess we'll have to wait and see on after Jan 20

I don't quite get it - why would you want to use multiple modems? If you 'hop' the way you say you do, presumably you use a notebook/laptop, and you would then have a wireless modem that you use with the unit?

I have a Notebook for work. When I am on the road, I would like to use this to connect to the Internet.
At home I have a Small Network. I definitely do not want to use my Notebook as the Gateway. When I am out of the country (or temporary out-of-reach), I would still like the rest of my family to make use of my PAID Network connection. (I would obviously take my Notebook with me).
Well, that is just one scenario. We are all different, with different requirements. Not all issues will apply to all people.
Hence, my question is the same as SauRoN.

You don't know what you don't know.

Most ISP's do not allow you to log on twice (which is essentially what you are asking) so I don't think Sentech will be any different. I imagine you will need to pay for 2 subscriptions and as Sentech only provides modems with a contract this is the only way you will get a second modem anyway.

...never mind...I wouldn't be within a receiption range for at least another 6+months....by then....who cares.

Sentech has a list of FAQs on their website: http://www.sentech.co.za/index.php?...32&bid=22&btitle=ProductsAndServices&meid=147. The following is a quote from there:

<blockquote id="quote"><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id="quote">quote:<hr height="1" noshade id="quote">
Can I use the same MyWireless modem and subscription at work and at home?

Yes. As long as your office and home both fall within the MyWireless coverage area. You can use the same modem and MyWireless subscription anywhere within the coverage area.

So it sounds like what you want to do should be possible.

Maybe I'm dumb, but I still don't see the need for multiple modems in the scenario sketched by Mux. If on the road, use your modem with your notebook (this presupposes that your family don't need connectivity when you're away). If at home, when you connect to your home network with your notebook, connect your modem to another machine that has been configured as a gateway, if you don't want to use your notebook for this purpose. Hence, only one modem required...
However, in the event of you wanting simultaneous connection for both home and road use, you'll probably have to buy another modem - as Perdition has noted, multilinks on a single account are disallowed by ISP's. ProAsm/Doomy - please comment further...

This is gonna go on and on...

Buying multiple modem is quite stupid as one wireless modem
is going to put you behind around 4000 rand. (As Sentech has mentioned) We're buying the modem when we subsribe for 24 month contract just like cellphone packages(get a free phone?).

Best solution would be get the PCMCIA Wireless modem for notebook, use it for when you are on the road.. Have a PCMCIA card for your desktop, so that when you leave for overseas just stick the modem into your desktop with PCMCIA card...

You can with Prolog, I have done it several times whilst testing installations. At one stage I was useing the same account on two sites for a week whilst waiting for telkom to issue the new user details.

Which has absolutely no relevance to MyWireless. My guess is that they will not allow an account to be active on two different devices simultaneously.

My scenario is the following.

I have an office, with a network of two pc's and two Macs. Currently I am using MegaServe at the office(which is sh@t by the way) So I would definitely want a modem permanently installed there.

Currently I am using dial-up at home, because I spend most of my time at the office, and thus wouldn't really use a second connection properly.

The rest of the time I am at different contracts, but they mostly have their own internet connections, as in UCT, and others. I might consider buying a modem in future.

So basically, I don't want to make simultaneous connections, I just want to hop around without having to switch modems.

The only reason I'm not using ADSL, is because we have optical lines at the office, and thus TelCum can't supply ADSL to us.

Megaserve is currently only running at about 32K I think (really swak service, and also shared) and we have heavy interference issues. Thus paying R650 for 128K or even R850 for 256K would be very cost effective for me regardless.

It would be a great bonus though, to be able to connect throught Sentech, with a second modem, to save on telephone bills. Even if that means, that the office connection will automatically disconnect.

For SauRoN:
IMHO, your best bet would be to go the route suggested by Dalgun - equip one of your office PCs with a PCMCIA facility, then buy a PCMCIA wireless modem for use both in your office and in the unit you use when away from the office. Since you don't really want/need simultaneous connectivity, it should not matter that the office cannot connect when you're using the modem elsewhere. This would also possibly be the cheapest way to achieve your objective - the modems are not cheap at R4K each...

This is from the Sentech web Site, under FAQ:

<font face="Arial Black"><font size="2">Can the modem be purchased separately of the MyWireless service?

No, All the MyWireless packages includes the Internet Access service as well
as the MyWireless USB or PCMCIA modem. No modem can be purchased outright from
Sentech or any other retail or wholesale outlet currently.

Can I purchase an additional modem with any of the MyWireless packages?

No, All the MyWireless packages includes the Internet Access service as well
as the MyWireless USB or PCMCIA modem. You will be required to purchase another
MyWireless service in </font id="Arial Black">order to obtain an additional modem.</font id="size2">

This means sentech want you to carry your modem around to different locations, likw between home and office, else you need to subs!!

I think Sentech are doing this mainly to prevent two people in separate locations from using a single account. If you purchased a second modem you could give it to a friend who could then make use of your account without paying Sentech. I know you can't log in twice but it could be that your friend connects while you're at work and then you connect when you get home.

I'm not sure about this but does the device use a SIM card? If it does then this would also explain why you can't just get the modem, you would need an extra SIM.

Have any of the Mywireless users tried to swop logins with each other or use the same login on 2 modems at the same time?
