Using Paypal (Very Urgent)

Thank you NathanCrow that was very informative. Thanks to all that have replied so speadily,I will check back again soon for any new posts.

My VISA debit card does not have the verification number on the back... so I can't validate my card

Who issued this card? Sounds funny without the CVV number you can't use it online, as there are very few places that still take credit cards without CVV checks.

NO problem you can also use Moneybookers to fund the debit card thy use Standerd bank to fund your account.
You can add the US bank account to your profile to withdraw the funds to you debit card

Paypal wants to be able to allow SA'fricans to accept money. It is SA that is refusing to allow it. Our currency restrictions of course. The Taxman won't know what funds you are holding overseas. They allowed SA'fricans to accept money in the beginning. This was shut down by our own banking system, so no use petitioning PP to allow it.
Welcome to the 3rd world.

To make international payments I always use paypal and to receive international payments I use setcom.com

Yep i also use Setcom.com works great. If you wanna sell on Ebay you will have to use Moneybookers as a payment method they will be up and running in February on Ebay

I have also integrated setcom's postback features into some C# and PHP webapps and it is a dream, those guys really make it easy for SA people to earn dollars and pounds :p

On paypal I don't even want to draw a complete history of all my transactions because over the years I must have blown more than 20k with it (mostly ebay, a little porn on the sideline).

You can only use Paypal if you have a credit card, and you can only buy stuff or send money to someone overseas. You cannot receive any payments.

Initially when you open the account, there will be a limit on the amount of funds that you can transfer, but after verification of your address (they send you a code via snailmail which you must send back to them) the limit is raised substantially.

Thank the SA Reserve Bank for not allowing us to use it as freely as other countries do.
That's a load of utter bull. PayPal will charge you an amount of $1 against your PayPal "account" (i.e. credit card) with the transaction detail containing your account verification code. You just enter that code on the PayPal website to "upgrade" your account and receive an unrestricted account.

There is no "snail mail" involved in this whole process.

100% Correct. I love paypal and it is very secure plus it offers excellent protection for its users. I hope someday our retarded financial law makers will allow us to be part of the global economy and receive money with paypal.

Until that day I'll have to stick with setcom.com for receiving funds.

Indeed, PayPal is my preferred method of online payment. If I see the "Pay now with PayPal" link on a website, I feel almost compelled to buy something from them... :p

Seriously though, pretty much all my music purchases are made online and paid for via PayPal. It's just so effortless and efficient. I've been using PayPal for about 5 years now (might be more?)... I still remember SA not being one of the listed countries. I also remember the "server move" for all non-US accounts.

You might wanna check your facts first...

The credit card code is to check if the credit card is yours.
The snail mail code is to verify your address.

I take it you have not verified yourself on Paypal then. If you have, like me, you would know what he is talking about. Paypal goes to extra lengths to ensure you really are whom you claim to be.

Not at all,I have a fully working business account thanks to my US home and bank account, but that's not the point here.

What the poster said about snail mail is true,he said its bull...there's nothing more to it.

If you sign up on paypal then you are an unverified users. You can use it, but you are unverified and some sellers will not like it.

The verification process takes part in 3 steps. First step they issue a $1 charge to your card. Part of the transaction ID is a code that you need to get from your credit card statement, that is step 2. Last step is where you log back onto paypal and enter the code from your credit card statement.

Then you are verified on paypal.

Correct, and nowhere did i dispute that.

Now if you don't have a credit card and use your bank account (usa) the process is the same but only via snail mail.

Please remember there is verified and confirmed status's on paypal, 2 very distinct and differant status's.

Verified means you Paypal have charged your credit card with and specific code, and you have verified this code back to them by checking your credit card statement, ie you are the owner of the card.

Confirmed means Paypal have asked your credit card issuer for your physical address, and Paypal confirm the address as being yours.

Verified status anyone world wide can do, confirmed address status however is pretty much only USA and some European countries, confirmed address status is a big hassle if the person you want to buy something from says sorry only deliver to confirmed paypal addresses.

;)

Well, there's something new then. Good point. On another note though, I've never been refused a transaction due to an unconfirmed address...

If you buy on ebay.com 90% of the sellers will not deliver to unconfirmed paypal addresses, as they loose their PayPal protection if they had to.
