I always thought you had to have an Fnb account to use Paypal but someone was telling me today you don't need one. Is this true?

Well you can make payments from any linked credit card. I think only cashing in money FNB supports it.

I have a Paypal account without a FNB bank account. I did, however, sign up for an "online presence" at FNB - sort of a RICA process.

Let me just start off by revealing how frustrated I am, I cannot make a purchase online via my card nor can i register my PayPal account. Yesterday I went into FNB to cancel this account and card to start a new account that would allow me to make any online purchase and register a PayPal account, seeing that it is the only reason i got this in the first place.

I was then told by a service assistant that it was already possible to make the online purchases through the card number CVV and expiry date, by then the card had gone dormant and i had to reactivate.

Of course i was happy and assumed there was a technical glitch and that now all my problems would be solved, i went home today to finally link my PayPal account, nothing. Called tech support, new problems and new errors.

"its okay, " i told myself "This might be because there is a delay on the card , maybe wait it out." i then continued to try fund my Adwords account so that i could advertise my YouTube channel, this was spit into my face - " Your bank or credit institution gave the following details about the decline: No reason provided by your financial institution." The same error i have been receiving since i got the card. I now am incredibly upset because I went in and wasted abut 4 hours of my day to be helped and receive what i was so eagerly awaiting.

But no i was just brushed off because of some clerk being to lazy to want to cancel a account and start me a new one. I am about to give up here but i could really use any advice here, if anyone has experienced this problem and can offer me a solution , my infinite gratitude would be bestowed upon them.

I have a PayPal account linked to a Standard Bank card .... and use it fairly regularly.

Same here. You only need an FNB account if you want to withdraw money from a Paypal account.

Me too. Never had a moment's hassle. I've used it with a couple of cards without a problem.

Brokaine, if I were you, I'd take a laptop or tablet with you into the bank and tell them that you're staying there until it works. Make them fix it while you sit there, make a lot of noise about how poor their service is, so that all their other clients know they're useless, and keep at it till they sort it out. Take lunch with too. Start setting up your picnic on their counter and they'll realise that you're committed.

Like others have said, it depends on "use"

To pay for stuff - any credit card will work
To receive money on it - you need a FNB account for Paypal to transfer the funds into
