If I travel abroad and get a local SIM card at my destination, can I simply use Uber as normal? Would any changes need to be done to my profile on the Uber app?

I am asking because the Uber app is set up with a specific phone number, but if I have a different number (i.e. the new number at the travel destination), can I still use it?

A follow-up question if I may:

I used booking.com for hotel accommodation ... they offer an additional taxi service from the airport to the hotel in Doha and the cost is R930. When I request an Uber quote for the same trip, it is R130.

Is it that just booking.com is trying to make money or why the huge discrepancy?

It's a fancy shuttle service just like booking a shuttle here vs Uber. Just use Uber.

You basically paying for someone to hold your name board at a airport.

I've never had a problem using Uber in the UK with a local UK sim card in my SA phone. Just open the app and order your Uber as per normal. You don't need to do anything extra.

Thanks @deweyzeph ... I did the same in Paris & London a few years ago, but I was unsure of the countries I am traveling to this time around.

Or just catch a taxi and negotiate .. I remember in Luxor, Egypt they were quoting crazy rates .. said I was from Africa and didn't work with dollars and euros .. miraculously the rates more than halved to a fair amount.

Another time, no taxi around .. local offered his 50cc bike .. jumped on behind him with all luggage to the airport on Principe Island.

Not the best advice if you not a half decent seasoned traveler as taxis can take you for a ride if you don't know what you doing.

Yeah, I’ve used Uber in Germany multiple times. Even Uber Eats works fine, it picks up your location quite well and adjusts the pricing.

Note: You will need a local sim for the app to work properly. Also, some Uber drivers try calling you if they aren’t too sure where you are or where you want to go.
