Morning all,

I am trying to setup the utTracestar app on a Win2k with iburst USB modem (black) and I run the setup wizard and the below error message occurs...

I hit continue and I am then prompted to select an ethernet adapter, but none are found - I am using black USB should this not be the case?? and the application crashes.

Also, why must I assign a static IP address eg (address ip to 192.168.250.1 subnet to 255.255.255.0), when my IP addresses are (apprently) assigned dynamically by iBurst - surely this leads to congestion through the network?

thx

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just in time (JIT) debugging, the config file for this
application or machine (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the machine
rather than being handled by this dialog.

He is Challenged after all... maybe mentally, maybe physically probably technically. :p

Anyway, Challenged, the IP address you are changing is only on your local network, it doesn't affect the tower or the iBurst network at all. You keep the same IP that you get from iBurst regardless of the IP of your network interface. You just need to change the IP so that UTTracestar can access the modem. Also make sure you are changing the IP of the "Ethernet" connection to the modem, which says "iBurst Terminal" in grey underneath it.

Thanks EK, much appreciated - it worked, I have many towers flickering through utTraceStar and have a latency of 49ms to 157ms and am connected to Randburg @ 8/10 and signal strength of -81... plus a whole bunch of more stuff..

Where can I find some info that tells me what all these figures and more mean?

Would this mean I have pretty good signal, or not at all or should i be focusing elsewhere?

8/10 is very good. Uttracestar is pretty critical, if you have 10/10 its insanely good, and I would say 7/10 and up is still good enough that tower load is much more likely to give you worse speeds.

Check the load of the tower you connect to. It goes from 0-3, 0 and 1 being good, 2 being most likely a bit overloaded but can still be okay and 3 is overloaded. This has a huge effect on speeds and latency. btw with latency lower is better. That 49ms latency sounds great.

Leave UTTracestar on for a while and check if you bounce between basestations. This happens if you have a few base stations with decent signal, but it generally isn't a good thing. You want to try and only connect to the tower with the best mixture of load and signal strength. Basically load will be more important that signal strength as long as you have a good enough signal to get those speeds from the least congested tower to you.

Hmm.. its a lot to explain, maby you should just read old threads. I would think alot of it is on the UTtracestar website under the FAQ section.
