I have been going through the threads trying to find the exact instructions for sending USSD codes to determine the balance on the MTN data bundle.

So far I have found out that you can use minicom or wvdial

I have both on my machine running openSuSE 11

on minicom, sending AT+CUSD=1,"*141#",15 just gives me
'OK'

I do not know how to do this on wvdial.

my modem works nicely on /dev/ttyUSB0

Could someone please explain how to do this, if at all possible.:(

That should work, the real response should come a few seconds later.

You may want to check whether you have the latest firmware on your device, some of the older versions don't handle USSD very well.

Hi,

just did some basic tests for USSD.
Exactly, it worked for me in open putty session (MS Vista).
The issue is I don't know how to get putty connected via the same serial port used for Internet pppd connection.

Looking for USSD manual on the net.
USSD commands are supported by a local base station, my modem is registered in, in Internet off mode either.

I can't use th same serial port both for the Internet and sending USSD commands.

Hope to get USSD manual soon.
