Just wondering if anyone else has been experiencing the same problem (detailed below), or if it's just my UTD that needs a padded white room?

If you have had the same trouble with your UTD being naughty...post a reply to this thread.

If I'm the only one experiencing this UTD problem, I will have to ask WBS to change my UTD, if not there might be enough info from you lot to get it sorted.

Description of the: "Deranged Traffic Light Thang"
  1. UTD is working fine: Status Led, and Signal Strength Leds
  2. All of a sudden: Status Led, and Signal Strength Leds Dead
  3. Delay of anywhere between 1..10 seconds
  4. All of a sudden: Status Led, and Signal Strength Leds
  5. 2, 3, 4 Repeat in sequence indefinitely until minutes or hours later the UTD returns to normal operation at 1

I experienced the same thing.....seems to be fine for now. Connected to Bryanston Tower. It usually happens between 8 to 10pm, then I switch it off and everything is fine the next morning.

Just an update on this, the last time this happened to my UTD was on Thursday 2004-12-09, and into the early morning of Friday. Nothing since then.

The last week has been the best iBurst experience I've had since I got iBurst.

At this point in time, I suspect radio interference of some sort (maybe the CIA has a bug installed somewhere  that interferes with iBurst).

Thank you Anakin (aka Luis) for your effort behind the scenes to try and find the cause of this problem.

My damn modem has been doin it again tonight - between 8 and 10pm - can't connect to anything - whats going on with this tower? The same on Saturday night 18/12/2004. I wanted to show streaming audio to my friends and it flopped right into my face - Iburst not a good marketing move there - I thought I would show it off - definately nor gonna do that again.

Well it is back again, just had ~half an hour of the Deranged Traffic Light Thang©

From about 15:50 up to now...

Perhaps a neighbour has jammed something in their microwave door sensors, so they can use it with the door open...hmmm crispy critters...

Is it only us (ic and aborg) on the Bryanston Tower? Nobody else seems to be having this problem?
Jeesh where's that freekin UFO?

Raithlin, definitely call Luis @ WBS in the morning, he offered to send people out to my place, during office hours with radio testing equipment (spectral analyzers...to detect the ghostly disco entities).

Tell Luis that the UTD disco ghost has inhabited Midrand.

I think Grand Central Airport Air Traffic do cause some kind of interference . Nite time I dont get it that much, but day time its another story. Just for reference
the line between me and the Midrand tower cuts the corner of Grand Central.

Spoken too soon. The past hour were interesting : Signal stay on 3 for about 6-7 minutes then jumps to 5 and immedaitely drops to 0 and red. about 20 ping timeouts later its back on 3

Interference is one thing, but you are not supposed to need Line-Of-Sight with iBurst, it is omni-directional to talk to as many basestations as possible, but the signal will also bounce on its way to the basestations. Something like that...

hehehe, dont have LOS on Midrand, i'm behind a hill and a row of high trees about 6 km away. On the other side of the house i can see Sandton Bryanston etc, but no signal from there, too far away

Resolution?

Hi guys

Anyone get an answer as to why these lights do this? Mine do it constantly, have done for months already.

Thanks

Ciao

Zak

hey zaktoo,
U can try switching it off for a couple of minutes (remove the power cable aswell) and reboot!

Yesterday I drove the car while having the laptop connected and trying to Skype to someone. Had the modem connection window up all the time and got the same. Signal entirely dead for about 1-2 seconds. Then it comes back again.Getting the same thing at home in stationary mode.
I see this is a very old thread. Problem just as old.

I'm on the zwartkop/Centurion tower, not sure if my problem relates to urs though. My download rate drops to zero every now and then, though my uploads seems fine.I can't see the status leds on my UTD as its far away from me, for better signal.waiting a while or reconnecting the power sometimes solves this.

Same Here just hapened again right now full signal ... no signal then full signal again. I am practically on top of the primrose tower and can even connect to another one not sure where though when primrose is down.

Tried to demo the package at the office two weeks ago and boy was that a slap in the face.

It seems to be the Usual... We will send some one, Never gets here and when you do get hold of them again they have no idea of such an arrangment ... Will be resolved in the next two weeks etc...

I have sent about ten emails to helpdesk and as per usual no response.
Try phoning them ...hope you got shares in Telkom they never seem to answer or the line just goes dead for some reason if they cant answer the questions.

Well I have applied to telkom for Adsl so when line gets installed bye bye iBUST.

I have 3 UTD modems all doing the same thing. Perhaps they will sort it out with the next Firmware update. Any case, it seems like it is a firmware glitch.

I have a Panasonix MX300 3CCD Digital Video Camera that did the same thing while downloading on IEEE1394. After a firmware patch it resolved the problem, so I cna only presume it could be the same sort of thing.

Similair Issue

Not sure if this should be posted here but I'm gonna do it anyway :D

I've got a UTD hooked up via USB so I have the little iB icon in the system tray and the letters "iB" go yellow and stay that way for a while and then will go grey for a while, then back to yellow... the cycle continues. When the "iB" is grey my connect link is 0 The only way to stop the "iB" from going grey and getting a 0 connect link is by doing a ping -t (I ping www.iburst.co.za) which I read about in another post somewhere on the forum.

The bright green LED between the power LED and the five signal strength LEDS (signal status LED?) is on solidly most of the time but flickers on and off every minute or so and then comes on solid again.

Anyone know what causes this, or more importantly how to fix it?

Cheers

Anakin,

I believe in your efforts! Just kick the CEO in the butt so he can get you some gurus to assist in fixing everything. please i am begging you not to be like sentec.
