I just wanna know the advantages/disadvantages of both. Any ideas? Will my IRC lags improve?

If they don't fix it before the end of the week, I am cancelling my contract ... I agreed having restricted speed and cap but I did not agree to anything that says that I can use it only for http!!!
All protocols must work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Otherwise that is not internet, it is just a web browsing product, useless for anything else! So they misadvertising it!

irc won't work with USB or LAN?? HAHAHAHAHA
ok please for one second stop being idiots so I can get this out

USB chews system resources, but the iBUrst terminal doesn't work without it
Ethernet doesn't chew system resources

if you have a slow machine or not alot of ram its feasable you will get faster speeds using ethernet because the stream of data going into your PC won't have to get proccessed.

As for the problems, I think you all should get ADSL, it seems only some of us get full speeds so why not just get ADSL today (well sign u[ today at least) rather than waiting

slimoty, and how am I suppose to install the modem using ethernet on Windows 2000?
Because the idiots at iBurst seem to have forgotten to put the instructions for windows 2000, they just copied the ones for the XP into the Windows 2000 installation doc file ...

I did install it with the ethernet on my linux box and I did not notice any difference whatsoever between ethernet on linux and usb on windows ... I don't think USB chews much more resources, maybe it does but it is hardly noticeable on any recent PC (1GHz+ and 256+ RAM)

well you just creat e a new network connection, so it should be somethin like control panel -> network connections.

then go through the new connection wizard, and select a broadband service that requires a username and password (it might also mention PPPoE) just fill in everything and in the end you should have a ethernet connections, then just unplug the usb plug in the ethernet cord and there you go.

to my knowledge there is no difference another than no drivers, and the option of being routable using ethernet

i guess its a relative term, I mean in a dual p4 4ghz with 4GB ram it might not be a big deal but if you have a really old laptop or 386 type setup it could make all the difference

thanks slimothy for the ethernet help, I tried that, but all paths ended to places that I had to put phone numbers etc. so I don't think it works like that under windows 2000 ...

I don't care much anyway, as I have a P4 2.4 GHz with 512 MB RAM and it hardly uses 1% of the CPU which I do not consider a problem ... if people consider that a problem, then right, ethernet is for you

swordfish1, its not a problem, i took a different route, i got a broadband wireless router so i could setup my whole house on wireless, and it does all the dialing n connecting n stuff. Costs less than a 1000 bucks, so not that expensive. but im a mobile user, i mission around the house with my laptop under my arm

theres some path/option that you can do it with no number or that you leave the number blank, i'll try when i get home and let you know

Kinda like half life steam saga I had which I confirmed whic you said I was talking bull.... eh?

oh come on vowthorn, you're gonna do this in this topic too? OK you don't liek my opinions, thats cool but can you please stop turning any thread I post in into a fight, this isn't about you or me its about USB versus ethernet, honestly.

I dont know... your ego says differently.

STEAM not SLIMOTHY... STEAM does NOT work with USB only with Ethernet... on iBurst... that says there seems to be a distinct difference between USB and ETHERNET on iBurst. I dont know what that difference is but I would say try and use LAN where possible...
