Another Java utTraceStar-like implementation.

Been working on it occasionally for a while now, never seem to finish the finer details to make it release ready.

I originally started with a Linux C++/Qt version, then changed to Java. Have ideas about a Perl one as well specifically geared towards IPCop & SmoothWall, but not quite ready for Perl development, so will appreciate help / guidance.

Consider it a very early beta release as a Java experiment...

[Edit 2006-08-11]
BTW, Seburn (utTraceStar) is aware of this development. Still need to rename the project if its worthwhile pursuing.

[Edit 2006-08-12]
Fully renamed to utJavaStar, RRD display improved, version in title 0.4, RRD period selection
Download: http://www.unchained.co.za/utJavaStar-0.4.zip
Requires JRE 5.0

Works on OS X :)

If I had known that you were this close I probably would never have spent all of those hours on eyeBurst! Oh well, I guess diversity is good...

Time is always the problem with these non-work projects. Been busy on this forever...

Donno if they ganna sticky this, we can always change the title of utTraceStar tread and include it there? I just wish I had done java to start with, or the ms could release .net for linux & Mac. I mean isn't that half the point of a framework and intemediate lanaguage?

I wonder how much work would be involved in getting utTraceStar to run on Mono. Last time I looked their WinForms stuff was not ready yet, but they do have a .NET gui library called gtk# for building gtk+ guis. Obviously that would work on Linux and apparently it could also run on OS X and Windows. But I'm not that keen to run X Windows on my mac (it just feels like a step backwards from Quartz) and Windows users would have to go and download gtk+. bleh

If it disappears into a void then so be it, but you're welcome to add it to the utTraceStar site, no need to change the thread title. The mods could have created and stickied a single thread with all the tools too to limit the number of stickies...

My primary purpose was to get an idea of the longer term characteristics of the iBurst signal and at the same time to have a look at Java.

Unfortunately I also relocated to an area with a much worse signal.

What I'm really after is an IPCop addon for ut monitoring, preferably with a live feed that can be monitored from network pc's in addition to RRD stats (eg as in traffic graphs). My Perl knowledge is however very limited, I'd rather fiddle with an existing script than create one from scratch.
