I use Vuze, sometimes its slow, othertimes its fast. You got to run encrypted protocol, I use RC4. Helps with speed, also you need to set your up / down speed ratios correctly. Read here : http://www.vuze.com/support/ their wiki is also very good.

Thanks IRG I go and have a look!
Any other tips on utorrent would still me awesome!

no problem. one thing tho for sure, make 100% sure that the torrent you want is the best available. there are always more than 1. I only use thepiratebay and always read the comments, helps you filter out shyte. make sure there are enough seeders!!

all these torrent apps are more or less the same when it comes to the engine, settings are pretty much generic. so if Vuze has a setting reccomendation, i'm sure it will be applicable to any torrent app.

Be sure to have Options > Preferences > BitTorrent > Protocol Encryption set to Enabled. It prevents the ISP (to a very limited extent) from recognising P2P which helps get passed bandwidth shaping.

Thanks dgcarter!
I had a look and it was set the protocol encryption.
Any other interesting tips I can use to speed up my utorrent or torrent downloads?
PM if you like!

Its Sunday! "sigh"

My Utorrent seems to be OK.

40-50KB in the evenings but slows down to around 30 in working hours.

Rapidshare doesn't work on iburst as well, unless you buy an account. :erm:

I don't know if it's been changed since I was with iBurst but torrenting was basically killed pretty fast. Even if you used whatever torrent client's encryption iBurst would eventually just start strangling the port it was running on. Not -that- annoying considering you can constantly change the port but at one stage I was getting strangled a few hours after I started downloading.

I ended up circumventing it initially via pushing my torrents through Tor which while horribly slow actually gave me better speed than iBurst could and finally just moving ISP to someone who won't kill your torrents.

But 30KB/s - 50Kb/s per torrent isn't bad especially on public trackers!
