utTraceStar Version 1.0.11 Released

seburn, utTraceStar is an excellent utility and your work on it is much appreciated. Thank you.

These programs are always good. It is a shame that it is difficult to get them working through a router.

I need the router and I could then probably get it working ... if the router has the required routing functionality and can be configured to use it.

Router Configuration

The linksys wrt54g doesn't have the capabilities
Roxan L. (29395): Hi, my name is Roxan L. (29395). How may I help you?
Seburn: Hi I need to know how to go about accessing a iBurst modem via the router on the ip 196.168.250.1 using a telnet session This normally does not work as the routing is set to bypass this completely and go to internet server
Roxan L. (29395): Okay.
Roxan L. (29395): May I have the model number and version number of your Linksys device?

Seburn: I have tryed port forwarding but understand this is only for incoming traffic I need the same sort of thing for outgoing traffic. the port is 1234 and the telnet session allows me to retrieve signal strength from the modem itself
Roxan L. (29395): Okay.
Roxan L. (29395): May I have the model number and version number of your Linksys device?

Seburn: wrt54g v7 But I will need a general method for all new linksys routers
Roxan L. (29395): Okay.
Roxan L. (29395): May I have your name or phone number please?

Seburn: Seburn
Seburn: I live in South Africa
Roxan L. (29395): How about your phone number, this is for our record purposes.
Seburn: **************
Roxan L. (29395): Thank you.
Roxan L. (29395): Let me verify, you want to setup the router to have the Internet connection on the modem, right?
Seburn: No this has been setup, ...
Roxan L. (29395): Okay.
Roxan L. (29395): Are you connected to the router?
Seburn: I need to somehow make a router to the iburst modem's internal ip address of 196.168.250.1
Seburn: not router route
Roxan L. (29395): Okay.
Roxan L. (29395): You want to set the router as a switch, right?
Seburn: Hmmm... not really it must function as a switch for the iburst modem only (do not want to use bridge mode)
Roxan L. (29395): Okay.
Seburn: In ipcop I got this to work by setting the internal ip of the ethernet card that connects to the modem to the same network range as the iburst modem
Roxan L. (29395): Are you connected to the Linksys router?
Seburn: Not at the moment
Roxan L. (29395): Okay.
Roxan L. (29395): Please connect the other computer to the router.
Roxan L. (29395): The IP Address on your modem is 196.168.250.1, right?
Seburn: It is not here it is at the office I need to get instructions, and yes
Roxan L. (29395): Okay.
Roxan L. (29395): 1. Just connect the computer to the router.
Roxan L. (29395): 2. Don't connect the router to the modem yet.
Roxan L. (29395): 3. Please hold or press the reset button on the router for 30 seconds.
Roxan L. (29395): 4. Make sure power light is solid green.
Roxan L. (29395): 5. Access the setup page of the router, 192.168.1.1.
Roxan L. (29395): 5.Just leave the username blank and password is admin.
Roxan L. (29395): 6. Click on Wireless tab. Change your network name yo any name you want. Then click on Save Settings.
Roxan L. (29395): 6. Please connect the Linksys router to the LAN port on your modem and connect your modem to the Internet port on the router.
Roxan L. (29395): 7. The check if you are able to go online on the router.
Roxan L. (29395): That would be the steps so that you are able to go online to the router with the modem.
Roxan L. (29395): Do you have any questions?
Roxan L. (29395): For more information, you can also visit our Knowledge Base located at http://www.linksys.com/kb. The site contains troubleshooting tips, how-to instructions, as well as solutions to common issues relating to all Linksys products.

Seburn: Wait number 6 (2nd one)
Seburn: i don't understand
Seburn: linksys->modem->linksys???
Seburn: I will have linksys->modem
Roxan L. (29395): The cable wire has two ends. The first end will be connected to the modem and the other end will be connected to the router.

Seburn: I don't need help setting up a simple linksys connection
Roxan L. (29395): So what do you want to set to the router?
Roxan L. (29395): The router will act as a switch if that would be the connection.
Seburn: I need it to work whilst connected to internet
Seburn: So I will set up the router to run in routing mode
Roxan L. (29395): Yes, you will have a DHCP server on the router.
Roxan L. (29395): You want to set the router on a Static Routing?
Seburn: This is very hard to explain
Roxan L. (29395): Okay.
Seburn: Have you worked with an iburst modem
Roxan L. (29395): Just take your time to explain.
Roxan L. (29395): Not yet.
Seburn: In a router you have a lan and a wan port ...
Roxan L. (29395): Yes.
Seburn: I will set the lan to in the range of the local network
Seburn: I need to set the wan (internal) to in the range of the iburst modem
Roxan L. (29395): Okay.
Roxan L. (29395): I understand that part.
Seburn: However options in the router config only allow you to set the wan ip of the say pppOE connection not the internal adapter
Seburn: which is probably 0.0.0.0 or 1.1.1.1
Roxan L. (29395): Yes, you cannot change the WAN IP on the router.
Roxan L. (29395): I do apologize for the inconvenience.
Roxan L. (29395): The WAN IP Address on the router cannot be change on the router.
Roxan L. (29395): Just the Local IP Address can be change on the router.
Seburn: Is there no telnet session or advanced interface to do this?
Roxan L. (29395): No, I do apologize.
Roxan L. (29395): The WAN IP Address on the router cannot be change.
Roxan L. (29395): I do apologize for the inconvenience that has caused you.
Seburn: Do you have any idea how I could go about accessing the iburst modem ip a different way via a new route or tunneling?
Roxan L. (29395): When it comes to tunneling then you have to get a router that has a VPN feature.
Roxan L. (29395): Your main concern is you want to access your network remotely?
Seburn: And that probably will still jump straight past the modem
Seburn: no
Roxan L. (29395): Okay.
Seburn: I need to access the modem and bypass the routing that routes traffic to the internet, whilst being connected
Roxan L. (29395): I do apologize, there is no feature on the router that will support that setup.
Seburn: Ok thank you for you help it is greatly appreciated have a nice day/night ;)
Roxan L. (29395): You are welcome.

Seburn, was that using the default software on the wrt?

I'll have a look tonight on my GL router - perhaps DD-WRT has enabled that function.
