Hi Guys

While I'm not too impressed with the way iBurst have gone about things they have brought a new modem onto the scene.
{ Product on their web site and can be ordered -- but not available for another week at least}

It's a USB only modem. Accroding to sales it's got similar RF to the UTD so should be a better buy than the UTC performance wise and is expected to retail at the same price as the UTC.

Anyone seen/tested these units yet?
Pictures?

it Is the same price as the UTC....dimensions not too sure about waiting for them to send me pics.

ALSO what is it exactly that hasn't impressed you about what they have done?

Ok, so I went onto the online registration system on Monday and signed up, asking for the UTU (USB) device, since this can be connected to both my laptop and my desktop.

I then phoned them the next day to arrange delivery of my modem, but they told me that the modems would only be available next week. I explained to the chap in logistics that you can't advertise something on your website and not be able to deliver it (The website also claims next day delivery of the UT to major centres).

They called me back yesterday and said that they had made a plan and I would be able to get my modem. I drove straight through yesterday and picked up my UTU. Many thanks to the guys at iBurst for actually going through the effort of making a plan to make the UTU available.

So now I have my UTU (I'm the first in the country to receive one :-). Its roughly the same size as the PCMCIA device (a little thicker, thanks to the casing), and comes with a 1/2 metre long USB cable, which is nice for moving the UTU around to find better signal.

It also has the ability to attach and external antenna, although I cannot confirm whether existing antennaes for the UTC or UTD will fit in the connection socket. It uses the extact same driver as the UTD, so program such as iConnect should be able to work with it.

At 100% signal, I'm getting roughly 800kbps download rate, which I'm happy with.

Just a quick note though, the default MTU size for the driver when it is installed is NOT the recommended iBurst size of 1352. This needs to be changed or your connection will be SLOW. Luckily the connection app that it bundled with the driver allows you to change this (you need to connect first before the button becomes visible though, no idea why). No need to download other apps to change the MTU size.

Anyway, I hope this information is useful. Have a great day.

looks cool, hows it perfom?, compared to UTD signal

Exactly the same performance in my experience. I think they've taken the USB modem portion out of the UTD and just packaged into a smaller package, dropping the PPPoE and Ethernet capabilities in exchange for smaller packaging.

The modem gets power from the USB bus and does not require any external power source like the UTD. at 100% signal this morning I was getting roughly 800kbps.

In contrast to the UTC, this one can actually be moved around to find a better signal close by, which is nice.

I'm happy with it, and would gladly recommend it to those that don't want to wait 3 months for an ADSL line :-)
