UUNet ADSL Accounts

yeah, we're selling SIAX accounts for:

5GB for R300
10GB for R500

Although the UUNet accounts are unshaped and as for as I've seen R499.00 for 4GB is about the norm

WA Prepaid R125 per GB Unshaped and the balance carries over. 3GB would be R375 and you keep what you don't use. For R25 difference it's a better option.

As others pointed out, if IS can give you 2G of international PLUS 27G of local for R163 I really cannot see how UUNET would ever expect me to pay them four times as much and not even get the 2G international!

UUNET/Verizon if that is the best you can do, sorry for you, your offer is most unappealing.

Edit: Here is a hint, you will have to drop to around R200 for _unlimited_ local access before I would even think about it.

What about this,

Unshaped:
11c per MB? so R112.64 per GB, you only pay for what you use?

Local:
3c per MB? so R30.72 per GB, you only pay for what you use?

or pay per GB at a cheaper rate?

i have no idea what you guys are talking about. we have 3 accoutns with uunet. 512 uncapped. i have seen no increase in price or any slowdown in bandwith and i transfer about 10 GB / month...

This sounds attractive for some. I would not use it but I can see it being a nice option for gamers/VOIP etc. Some games use relatively low amounts of bandwidth but people still have to buy a large amount of data every month.

For a mail server, this would be cool. My sister is having problems were their mail server is chewing through 3GB - 4GB of traffic every month. It's a waste to use up international bandwidth on local mail. Over 5GB it becomes more worthwhile to go with an IS 30GB account.

Will there be any limit on number of connections with these UUNET accounts?

AFAIK when 1. Verizon have their act together ( soon ) and 2. their contract with whoever you bought the accounts through runs out, so does the uncapped, and, according to rumour, you pay a basic plus 10c/Mb international and 2c/Mb national, or switch to another ISP I suppose. I have this about 3rd hand but it does tie in with what Carlhead says, roughly anyway.

Agreed. To compensate for my disappointment I think I will see how much of the entire internet I can download onto my hard drive before the uncapped runs out.

Lets face it - you only have to go back in this forum less than a year and you'll see how uunet made a lot of people very unhappy. They have the opportunity now to revamp their uncapped offerings but instead they've decided to become a saix clone.

But seriously these UUNet accounts perform well, the price is not thaaat bad, I mean what's the average price for unshaped accounts? We're selling these at 11c per MB, pay as you use and define your own cap. Which I think is pretty good when looking at the rest of the market.

the 3c per MB local bandwidth offer is going to come in handy when setting up local VPN's however.
