Is anyone experiencing the wonders of a 500ms local ping atm?

nope, my local has been perfect since 2 days ago 24/7 around 70ms to saix.net

I tested just now, when I replied. Unless it got fixed in that instance ;-)

Very strange, since your also in Capetown. Should have same ping :/

woops, ok. I have heard that durban does get nailed more often, think they got alot smaller pipe to cope.

--- saix.net ping statistics ---
25 packets transmitted, 25 packets received, 0% packet loss

:(

Last couple of days I've been getting ±20% packet loss to overseas sites such as google.

25 packets transmitted, 19 packets received, 24% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 422.990/436.501/447.391/5.445 ms

yea, I had to add a static record for google to my DNS servers because it kept failing to resolve during the day.. quite pathetic..

loss is generaly around 20% still for me, I just routed international via SAIX... he point of having uncapped is thus beyond me :P

I'm looking into getting 2x 30gb saix accounts now. The whole UUNet plethora of problems is becoming tedious.

Since the packet loss to IS from SAIX accounts has been getting worse and UUnet seem to have fixed their problems we are now using a UUnet account. (still have the saix one as a backup)

I have to disagree I'm afraid - over the past few days I've been experiencing overseas packet loss. This morning for example:

--- www.yahoo.akadns.net ping statistics ---
25 packets transmitted, 15 packets received, 40% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 420.657/440.629/460.850/9.492 ms

--- www.l.google.com ping statistics ---
25 packets transmitted, 15 packets received, 40% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 503.261/520.377/532.014/7.843 ms

--- www.apple.com.akadns.net ping statistics ---
25 packets transmitted, 19 packets received, 24% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 474.048/483.931/495.802/5.434 ms

Heavy shaping has not brought the wanted results. Before a major upgrade has been done it will not work.

Been monitoring my traffic and as its been forced below 6gb per week UUNet is no longer a financially viable option. Packet loss is unacceptable and makes using p2p like skype awkward to say the least.

Come Monday I'll be contacting them in order to cancel. I'm stilll thinking a 2x 30gb saix is the best option - who are the cheapest at the moment?
