UUNet: Whats going on?

I know about the latency bar, mine is usually green for 10 seconds or so, always live in hope. How do u check the packet loss? Also find that sometimes when a bucket load of Horde raid I get kicked out the game :(.

Packet loss is usually the big problem, much more than the latency. Lets say you are attacking a creature and suddenly your spell 'hangs' as if you've entered bullet-time. You can still walk around but everything around your is 'paused'. Thats caused by packet-loss. Sometimes other really strange things happen such as Player Characters turning around in circles in one spot or they warp or teleport all over the show. After a huge packet loss, usually the game tries to play 'catch up' and everything thereafter happens at ultra speed. And thats why sometimes it seems you suddenly just drop dead, even though the character you were fighting was a level 1 critter.

Latency is the responsiveness of the game, eg. It is the time it takes for you to sell something and receiving your cash. Or the time it takes from hitting the spell button to actually casting the spell. Luckily for Massive Multiplayer Online Games (MMOG), latency is not that essential because its not about lightning reflexes (Quake 3/ UT2004).

Maybe generally, but when your raiding a horde camp and next thing you get sheeped and you have had no chance to respond  it can get quite fustrating.

I experienced the running in circles thing in an instance server, so close to the end and the server fell over . And the casting thing when you get large horde raids.

What connection are you using?

ADSL Shaped.

I've never been sheeped before, since I've never been part of a raid. The only thing that I know of that needs a good response would be fishing. fishing can be frustrating on shaped ADSL.

Last night I was getting really bad lag (caused by packet loss), yet my friend on ISDN was fine. But it was nothing in comparison to UUNET where a ping to google.com was 300-400, but the game was almost unplayable and very frustrating.

If bob's service can provide fast (250ms-450ms), reliable (no packet loss) and stable (no spiking) pings to WoW, I'd be very interested!

LaRoosTa,

Let me get the VPN service fixed. But I'm very sure I'll be able to supply it. All I'm worried about is the adsl -> adsl connection. (the cnnection between you and my VPN server).

But lets see...

Just to confirm its not shaped. But at the moment there is packet loss on international, this will result in a lower average ping for WoW players.

We are assisting UUNet as much as possible to get this resolved for our users.

Let me understand this correctly. The UUNet service is not shaped and are trying to get packet loss down i.e. WoW ping times up?

Something that most if not all WOW players dont understand. Yes 0% loss is attainable but 450ms MAX ping is not. Alot if not most of the time the servers would be to crowded and a 450ms just isnt possible, a realistic all the time avg would be 700-800ms which is attainable except if the server load is so high and in the few situations push the ping over a 1000ms. All this is still perfectly playable without loss.

Killadoob - Go play on ur AYCE so I can laugh at you, you will get specially during the day 5000ms+ ingame with international games.

Enjoy

killadoob like insulting uunet because he is on AYCE...

What is interesting though, he is insulting the wrong company, but to start with, you should not insult companies as they are doing something which you are not...you are however allowed to give your opinion on a company;s service, but when it gets to the level where you insult them non-stop, you are just acting childish.

Deliver a service like uunet do, tell me if its easy/difficult, and if you can do better, Ill be impressed by what you say, but right now you are just disgusting me...

Agh - your wasting your breath (or fingertips?) - as they say ignorance is bliss and he does seem very very happy.

My UUnet is shaping up nicely - good pings, decent download speeds, skype is uploading and downloading files rapidly and the voice is much better. If telkom offers me the 1meg line I'll be laughing - esp at those with the paltry 30gb caps.

well yes during the day you will get those pings because everyone is online. are you not aware that more ppl use adsl during the day than at night (and im ignorant?

and the reason im anti uunet is because since i have seen ayce open even before i signed you guys have done nothing but talk sh%t about them so all i do is talk sh^t about uunet.

i do this because as with me i dont know uunet service or whether it is any good, but on that note you dont know if ayce's service is any good but yet you still go on and on about how bad they are.

your gonna have a 1mbit line and no p2p lmao what you gonna use your 1mbit to download?

and im here and your gonna have to live with me but untill you stop attacking ayce i wont stop attacking uunet

do you guys have a usage meter at uunet?
why not copy me some guys that have downloaded over 30 gig this month so far?
gimme a link do something other than whine about ayce

and again i dont work for them i just like being a pain in the ass
